Morton’s neuroma is a painful condition that can worsen over time and can also be linked to individuals that use high-heeled shoes as well.
Common Symptoms:
- A burning sensation at the ball of the foot and may radiate around the toes
- Tingling or numbing in the toes
- Sharp or stinging pain
- May feel like standing on pebbles in your shoe
What are some risk factors?
- Wearing tight-fitted or high heeled shoes that are ill fitted causing more pressure to the bottom of the foot.
- Althetic individuals involved in running or high impact activities that can cause repetitive trauma to the ball of the foot
- Individuals with other foot deformities are at higher risk to developing a neuroma such as individuals whom may bunions, flat fleet, or high arches as well.
Diagnosis:
- Examination by preferred podiatrist
- X-rays
- MRI
Treatment:
- Podiartist may prescribe foot pads or custom molded orthotics to help relieve pressure off the bottom of the foot.
- Steriod injections is recommended to help relieve inflammation and pain.
- Physical therapy can be an option as well if necessary
- Surgery, if necessary
