Morton’s neuroma is a painful condition that can worsen over time and can also be linked to individuals that use high-heeled shoes as well. 

Common Symptoms:

  • A burning sensation at the ball of the foot and may radiate around the toes
  • Tingling or numbing in the toes
  • Sharp or stinging pain
  • May feel like standing on pebbles in your shoe

What are some risk factors?

  • Wearing tight-fitted or high heeled shoes that are ill fitted causing more pressure to the bottom of the foot.
  • Althetic individuals involved in running or high impact activities that can cause repetitive trauma to the ball of the foot 
  • Individuals with other foot deformities are at higher risk to developing a neuroma such as individuals whom may bunions, flat fleet, or high arches as well. 

Diagnosis:

  • Examination by preferred podiatrist
  • X-rays
  • MRI

Treatment:

  • Podiartist may prescribe foot pads or custom molded orthotics to help relieve pressure off the bottom of the foot.
  • Steriod injections is recommended to help relieve inflammation and pain.
  • Physical therapy can be an option as well if necessary 
  • Surgery, if necessary
